Very topical with the world economic crisis…

‘To be in Carey Street’ was a popular euphemism for being in financial trouble in the mid 1800s.

Carey Street is a small street (behind the Royal Courts of Justice) that has been the home to the Bankruptcy Court since 1840. So, if you were on Carey Street, you were already in the red!

Here’s hoping none of you are ‘in Carey Street’!
