Not Taller than Wide

Until 1954, it was forbidden for a building to be taller than the width of the street it was on.

Some believe this is why Queen Victoria was clearly upset when her view from Buckingham Palace was obscured by a 14-storey hotel.

The result was that many roads were made wider!

You will notice a vast number of roads, such as Northumberland Road, around the palace are unusually wide!

  1. I do not know whether it’s just me or if everybody else encountering issues with your site. It seems like some of the text on your content are running off the screen. Can somebody else please provide feedback and let me know if this is happening to them too? This might be a issue with my web browser because I’ve had this happen previously.
    Thank you
